Spring Eco-Fashion Tips

This time of year always brings me so much joy.  The sun is getting warmer and the days are getting longer. Ahhhhhhhh. It’s also the perfect time of year to release things I don’t need, wear, or use in order to clear out old, stagnant energies. I just looove that spring cleaning vibe! Last week, I dropped off some clothes at my local thrift store: three bags of books, clothing and accessories.

I remember reading a book by self-help guru Louise Hay who said that it’s important to give away clothes we don’t use. She also wrote not to become too obsessed with buying too many new clothes.  My interpretation of this message is that self-love and true happiness ( the topic of most of her work)  come from within, not from all the stuff society and the media encourage us to buy.

In my case, it has been a journey of going from being style and fashion-obsessed to becoming truly content with what I have, loving my own unique style, and feeling grateful for the colorful things I own.  Through the years, I’ve also developed a passion for finding unique treasures in thrift stores and vintage shops.

Here are some eco- fashion tips for the Spring season:

  • Donate, donate, donate!  Stop holding on to things you never wear.  This goes against the Law of Circulation. Let it flow and you will attract new things to you.

  • Add a touch of love to your closet. Clean it for real!  Wipe all of the shelves with organic essential oils and if needed, sage the space.  Set an intention that the energy and vibrations of all second-hand and vintage clothes you found be replaced with the purest energies of love and light.  You can listen to inspiring tunes while you’re at it.  I enjoy listening to It’s Spring Again by Lou Rawls, Spring Fever by Elvis Presley and Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles.

  • Think of what colors would make your heart sing right now and manifest finding treasures in that color palette at your local thrift or vintage store.   I always ask the Universe to send me something in the color that will make me happy. It never fails to amaze me and it’s usually it’s on the $1 dollar sale rack too. Amazing!

  • Mix and match! As I write this, there’s still snow on the ground here. You can mix and match different seasons: for example, wear a bright and cozy turtle neck sweater with a summer/spring skirt. I just love the mix of patterns, styles and seasons. Here’s the thing about style and fashion: there is NO rule.  Wear what you want and like!  I particularly love this look found on the website of Glamour.com

  • Treat yourself to a new piece/item of clothing or accessory the color of tulips!  Yes, to me tulips truly represent the arrival of Spring: yellow, red, turquoise, pink, purple. Pick your favorite shade and just go for it!

Happy Spring!
