Les Lares: an Interview with Julie Simard Jones

I met Julie recently through a mutual friend after a panel I hosted in the Eastern Townships. She mentioned that she created perfumes made with natural essences and I was immediately intrigued. Then she handed me her business card for Les Lares, a gorgeous piece of art in and of itself, and I was intrigued even more… Julie studied with Mikaël Zayat, the founder of Zayat Aroma, who creates the most exquisite essential oils of the highest quality. After spending years in the hairstyling industry, Julie was called to launch her own line of perfumes, made with organic high quality essentail oils.

Julie studied with Mikaël Zayat, the founder of Zayat Aroma, who creates the most exquisite essential oils of the highest quality. After spending years in the hairstyling industry, Julie was called to launch her own line of perfumes, made with organic high quality essentail oils.

But what impressed me the most with Julie is her courage to take big leap, something I admire greatly, after retreating in a cabin in the woods, where she connected intimately with her spirit and nature. This is where the idea for Les Lares came about.

This reminds me of one of my all time favorite books, Walden by Henry David Thoreau, who praised the virtues of connecting with nature through living simply and in the sublime silence of the woods.

What also impressed me with Julie is the fact that she acknowledges the fact that natural essences offer a much higher vibration than traditional perfumes made with more chemical substances. That is something I believe in wholeheartedly. I have stopped wearing synthetically made perfumes as my skin no longer tolerates them.

Julie’s products are unisex and cherished by many, including singer Coeur de Pirate. She chooses her essences carefully and uses her creative spirit to create gorgeous blends and divine essences, including her popular Cognac à la Rose.
