Interview With Vicky Jodry of Ola Bamboo

I recently had the opportunity to discover Quebec brand Ola Bamboo, maker of the eco-friendly toothbrushes, thanks to friend and fellow speaker Caroline Néron. A huge supporter of local businesses and a supremely accomplished businesswoman herself, she enthusiastically told me about a company she discovered on Dans L’oeil du Dragon, the Quebec edition of popular television show Dragon’s Den. When I heard the product was locally designed, it caught my attention. Having cut back on my own consumption of all things plastic, I thought this product was both interesting and useful.  The truth is, I wanted one right away.

Based in the Gatineau region, Ola Bamboo is the brainchild of Jean-Philippe Bergeron, radio host Vicky Jodry, and Simon-Pier Ouellet.  For now, their principal product consists of  toothbrushes made from bamboo that are sold at the reasonable price of $4.99.   Jodry did mention that other products are currently in the works, including recyclable beauty accessories.  The company offers a subscription model where you can order a year’s supply and this subscription model is available to individuals, couples, and the entire family.
The company really took off after being featured on the Quebec television show and Jody credits Néron for their rapid growth and swift success. According to Vicky, Caroline’s support, effort, and generosity have been not only instrumental, but immense.
Having met and given inspirational talks with Néron in the past year, this comes as no surprise. Her enthusiastic personality is bigger than life and her ability to communicate her passions is unparalleled.
Thanks to Caroline’s help and impressive business savvy, the toothbrushes are now offered in all major pharmacies across the province and at health food stores such as Le Naturiste.
When asked where the toothbrushes are made, Jodry informed me that they are made in China, where their bamboo is sourced. It would be less eco-friendly to ship the raw materials and fabricate them here, she informs me. This also allows them to keep the price fairly competitive so that their use is more widespread by the general population. In terms of their benefits, it’s primarily ecological however it’s worth noting that bamboo is also anti-bacterial in nature and helps to keep bacteria at bay.

I look forward to brushing my pearly whites with their amazing product. It is a step in the direction of greater health for your mouth and for the planet.
I hope that you do too. 😀
Thank you for my new toothbrush Vicky! I love it!
