An Interview with Sol Desharnais of Sol Designs

I had the pleasure of discovering Sol and his beautiful designs while on a recent trip with my friend Miriel. She was happily wearing a handbag and began speaking of its creator, a friend named Sol from Manitoba. What caught my attention were the words: locally made, recycled vinyl flooring, he gives back to the community and meditation and yoga!  This embodies’s Sol’s philosophy for both work and life. And it reflects mine too.

What I discovered after speaking with Miriel and Sol is that he is not only passionate about what he does, he is extremely creative and generous and kind.
His designs are sold across Canada, through gift shows, online shops and have been featured in some of the country’s top art museums, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
In addition to handbags, he created wine bottle holders made with seat belt straps and other fun accessories.

But what I found most appealing with Sol is that he sub-contracts some of his work to a local community organization that gives work to people with health and mental challenges.
Oh, and he’s into yoga too,. He took a yoga teacher training and embraces the philosophies of mindfulness and working from the heart.

He’s my kind of entrepreneur. Thank you Sol for your kind spirit and generosity. Keep making some beautiful accessories.  Anything that emanates from the heart and soul will go far!
