An interview with Cynthia Boucher of Vêtements Mandala

I had the pleasure of speaking ( in French!) with Cynthia Boucher, founder of the Vêtements Mandala clothing line based in Montreal, for my podcast Soulful Couture. Her collection of bright colored leggings caught my attention this past year as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed. I also loved her slogan: “Vous êtes magnifique – You are beautiful!” and the fact that her collection is available in sizes XXS to 3X.

During our conversation, we talked about the current state of the fashion industry, sustainable fashion practices, and her take on the body positivity movement. She also informed me that she’s looking for a new location to call home for her company’s headquarters due to her company’s recent growth. This is terrific news and music to my ears. I absolutely love hearing this kind of success story, especially about our local retail industry.

During our conversation, she explained that she decided to launch her own clothing line while taking a yoga teacher training as she wanted a pair of leggings that hugged her body in all the right places without any discomfort. It was super important to her not to feel the seams and be distracted by them.

She’s also a big suporter of the body positivity movement and believes women of all shapes and sizes should have the possibility of wearing attractive and comfortable clothes that fit just right. This explains why she invests in creating specific patterns for all sizes, as opposed to simply re-imagining what a piece would fit like from a smaller pattern.

The company took off during the recent pandemic after our local government encouraged shoppers to buy local. Vêtements Mandala immediately began to receive more orders and the company has been growing ever since.

They offer more than just leggings: dresses, tops, jumsuits, camisoles and other loungewear. The fabrics are super soft too.

This line of clothing is made in Canada with fabrics sourced with comfort in mind. Congrats Cynthia for being a pioneer in creating local fashion that fits well and makes women of all shapes and sizes feel attractive!

I’m already a fan.
