An interview with a 21 year old entrepreneur who creates eco-fashionable swimwear: Rose Guillemette

In these challenging and changing times, it’s refreshing to come across young entrepreneurs like Rose Guillemette, who believe in the protection of the environment and of our planet, something that is desperately needed right now. Rose is an amazing entrepreneur who creates eco-fashionable swimwear. Rose created her line of swimwear, New Kears, at the age of only 21 after studying fashion merchandising,  and her collection, available for men and women, is made with recycled plastic bottles and discarded fishnets that flood our oceans and threaten aquatic life as well as other textile scraps.

During our conversation, I realized that she is determined, filled with dreams, drive, hope and passion. She’s a young woman after my own heart.

Her workshop / warehouse is based in Saint-Norbert-d’Arthabaska, near Victoriaville, in the Center-of-Québec region and its suppliers come from Quebec, China and Italy. The idea came to her after two humanitarian trips to the Caribbean and Central America when she was only 15-16 years old.  She wants to make the world a better place and has already done so in only a year by already recycling over 22 000 water bottles!

What I also found super inspiring about Rose is the fact that she wishes to promote diversity with her collection, making it available to everyone no matter their nationality, size, age, skin colour or sexual orientation. This is something that really speaks to me and is the topic of my young adult novels, Bonjour Girl.

She represents a new breed of young entrepreneurs who are consciously working to make the world a better place. In our interview, she shares some tips about how to become a social entrepreneurs and some of the challenges you face in doing so.  She also share her favorite things, places and food!

I hope you will listen in on our podcast conversation and that you’ll  seriously consider ordering your next bathing suit from a place of conservation and consciousness. Bravo Rose for all that you do!
